It’s a great dream many people have, to own their own business, company, or restaurant and work for themselves. It’s a wonderful dream to have, and in America the opportunities are endless. Working for a big company certainly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, some people thrive in that setting, where as many others long to be their own boss and make their own time table. People chose self employment for many reasons, some people just can’t stand the thought of working for someone else, others, see it as a gateway to financial freedom, but I think for the most part, most entrepreneurs have that same will and passion to do the work that they love as a way of life. Entrepreneurs are a breed of their own, I believe that they hold a passion for life much greater than many people realize, it takes guts, passion, dedication, strength and self belief to take that chance in life and many people will dream and let their dreams be dreams. So whenever you see a small (or big) business, think about all the hard work and determination (and money) that went into building their dream. Many people will have to take out business loans in order to get their business started or have to risk their own personal finances to try to make it come alive. Either way, it takes much gusto and life to pursue a dream full heartedly.

As wonderful as owning your business and self employment sound, it does unfortunately come with its own set of drawbacks. Doesn’t everything? Not necessarily so, but most everything has it’s ups and downs, and although entrepreneurship is my work of choice, I feel it necessary to also share with you the negative as well as the positive aspects of the job, it has both it’s rewards as well as it’s drawbacks.

There is a difference between doing something you love as a hobby and something you love as work. It unfortunately can really change things when you suddenly turn that little hobby into your main source of income, and it can honestly take a little bit of the fun out of it. This is not necessarily so, especially if you are a workaholic. I think the biggest misconception is that people think they will have more free time, life as your own boss, has a lot of added stress, and depending on what kind of business you own, you may have to be the boss to many other employees, which comes with it’s own set of problems. Despite the negative elements, which only a few a mentioned above, ( I wouldn’t want to discourage anyone) the benefits can be quite rewarding, both fiscally and emotionally speaking.

Having your own business can be extremely rewarding and can be a huge boost in your self confidence. When starting out, you may have to mask some of your nervousness so that customers won’t see it. Be an expert at your product, wether it’s a restaurant or retail store, know everything there is to know about the business, be prepared to answer any questions that come your way, self confidence will inspire confidence in the customers and will bring them back to friendly service. Over all entrepreneurship is a great and rewarding venture that you will not regret, wether it is successful or not, there is something to learn in all great experiences in life. I salute you if you have taken the chance and braved the stormy waters of business ownership.  It is a road that many can only dream of, but one that the brave will attempt again and again in hopes of great achievements.
